At RECAP, Geoff works to share lessons from Australia’s solar and battery training, accreditation, auditing and continuing professional development ecosystem with the Asia-Pacific region.
TRAINING, STANDARDS & ADVOCACY
Geoff creates and delivers continuing professional development (CPD) for solar designers and installers. He served as the Smart Energy Council’s Training & Standards Coordinator from September 2023 to August 2026, with work including installer roadshows and technical training.
Through Standards Australia’s EL-42 renewable energy committee, Geoff has contributed to standards development, including AS/NZS 4777.2:2020 for grid-connected inverters and AS/NZS 5033:2021 for photovoltaic arrays.
Geoff brings the installer’s perspective to industry representation and public discussion. His advocacy focuses on helping policymakers and the public understand how solar and energy storage can support decarbonisation, with practical experience informing technical and policy discussions.
IN THE INDUSTRY
CAREER & LEADERSHIP
Established Sunman Solar Pty Ltd to bring together his earlier sole-trader consultancy, providing bespoke on-grid and off-grid solar and energy storage systems in the Northern Tablelands.
Industry representation through the Solar Energy Industries Association. As NSW Chair from 2011 to 2020, Geoff hosted professional development sessions and represented the association in print, radio and television.
Ten years of board service, including Secretary from September 2014 to December 2022. Alongside directors’ duties, Geoff chaired professional development sessions at the Council’s annual conference.
Served during the establishment of Solar Accreditation Australia, contributing his training and technical background.
Developed and delivered professional training, helping installers and designers build knowledge and maintain accreditation through CPD.
Performed photovoltaic system audits for an Australian federal regulator of clean energy programs, as well as privately commissioned audits.
Delivered introductory PV design and installation courses in Auckland from 2013 to 2016, training at the Pacific Power Conference in Tonga in August 2016, and training for renewable energy project managers from South-East Asia in Auckland in May 2017.
Consultant Solar Power Designer and Installation Supervisor, based in Armidale, with two decades of practical solar industry work.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certificate III in Electrotechnology, TAFE, 2011–2014.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, TAE40110 (2015–2016) and TAE40116 (2018–2019), Inspire Education.
Excellence in Electrotechnology awards for the NSW and New England regions, and Apprentice of the Year for the New England region.
